Our Spell checking system is a writing assistance tool which provides users with the correct word candidates by automatically detecting spelling errors in texts. The low number of typos is often considered an important criterion for a high-quality publication. Compared with systems developed for Indo-European languages, Chinese spell checkers are much more difficult to develop because of its unique linguistic features. First, no word boundaries. There are no word boundaries in Chinese texts, so we must rely on word segmentation systems to identify words. Second, large character set. Unlike alphabetical languages, such as English or French, whose words are spelled by a small set of letters, Chinese words are constituted by a large character set of more than ten thousand.
