The invention provides an advanced new avian vaccine against avian influenza viruses. This vaccine includes an effective dose of influenza virus-like particles as antigens, VP3 capsid protein of foot-and-mouse disease virus, and aluminum hydroxide or water-in-oil as adjuvants.
This new vaccine is superior to the conventional vaccine based on inactivated virus. This new vaccine confers higher survival rate, lower viral shedding, and inducing higher levels of antiviral interferons compared to the conventional vaccine.
Prophylactic injection of this vaccine in poultry birds can protect them from death of viral infection. In addition, the vaccination can reduce the spread of avian influenza viruses and their transmission to other animal species including human.
